Boy Zugba in Ayala Centrio Mall, Cagayan de Oro City

It was the first night we had in Cagayan de Oro. We were hungry and we were looking for something homegrown from Cagayan de Oro that was when one of my friends recommended Boy Zugba located in Centrio Mall.

As its name suggests most of their best products are that from the grill. Zugba came from the word sugba which means to grill.

When we went there we did not get a seat as the place was full. We waited for a while and when a table was available for our group we went in. Looked at the menu and since we did not know their best sellers we asked the waiter. He suggested to avail the Bandihadong Karne.

We went for the Bandihadong Karne (395 Pesos) since it really looked good in the photo. We also went for Scallops (230 Pesos) since I’m a fan. Ordered a cup of rice for each person. Then we ordered Watermelon Coolers (160 Pesos). For dessert we ordered Leche Flan (49 Pesos) but we requested for it to be delivered after we ate the main course.

Condiments

While waiting for out orders which the waiter said for us to wait for about 15-20 minutes we explored the condiments on the side.

The condiments tray on the side of our table consists of soy sauce (toyo), vinegar, chopped tomato and onion and sili labuyo.

My favorite are the chopped onions and tomato since this is not available in most restaurants and I always do this at home.

Bandihadong Karne (395 Pesos)

The Bandihadong Karne consists of Pork Barbecue, Liempo, Chorizo, 2 prawn chips and a dip served in banana leaf on a weaved plate.

A note on the Chorizo that this is a cheese Chorizo, which is a plus for a cheese lover like me.

The amount of the Bandehadong Karne is for a 3 person team. Taste wise it is good. Worth sharing.

Scallops (230 Pesos)

6 pieces of baked scallops with chopped onion rings. I really enjoyed this because it was delicious but since it’s only 6 pieces I had to stop myself from taking too much or else my friends would not get their share.

I could finish an order of Scallops myself.

Watermelon Coolers (160 Pesos)

Our first decision for our beverage was the Lemongrass Coolers. Unfortunately, it was no longer available (maybe it was their best seller) so we opted for the Watermelon Coolers.

I’m not sure if the Lemongrass Coolers would be the best option since we have not tried it but from out experience with the Watermelon Coolers it was a perfect drink from the tastes of the Pork Barbecue, Chorizo, Liempo and Scallops.

A pitcher of this filled 4 glasses.

Leche Flan (49 Pesos)

When we finished our main meal we requested for the Leche Flan to be served.

First impression was it was small, but when we started sharing the Leche Flan, each of us getting a spoonful, I realized that it was the right amount to flush the saltiness of the main course. It was sweet and creamy just how a Leche Flan should be.

Conclusion

So far one of the best homegrown restaurants I have eaten in Cagayan de Oro and I would highly recommend this to friends and family visiting Cagayan de Oro.

The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is good. Ambience is also conducive for dining and conversations over food.

I look forward to dining here again and trying their other food.
